Clare Kewney and her father Barry Downes, run Leek Hearing Centre. They are very highly qualified with decades of experience.

Clare Kewney

Clare followed in her Father’s footsteps and qualified as an Audiologist in 1997. After that she became a registered Health and Care Professional (HCPC). Then a Fellow of the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists (BSHAA). And is a member of the National Community Hearing Association (NCHA).

Clare has worked for many years in the NHS and the private sector, and as a result has accrued a wealth of knowledge. She is fully trained in the earwax removal method of microsuction, irrigation and instrumentation. Clare is also an expert in hearing technology and a Tinnitus Advisor.

Clare also lectures on behalf of Mary Hare School for the Deaf and UK Audiology Ltd.

Barry Downes - Audiologist

Barry Downes

Barry has been immersed in the independent hearing care sector, in a number of roles since1977. He has many years experience as a practitioner, hearing expert and registered dispenser of hearing aids. Likewise in several management and teaching roles. Consequently Barry has developed strong connections with the independent sector’s regulators and professional groups.

Currently Barry’s roles include: Registration Assessor for the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), Member of the Council of the British Society of Audiology (BSA), Member of the BSA’s Professional Guidance Group.

After many years as a trustee of the charity Hearing Link, he subsequently became a trustee of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. This followed the merger with Hearing Link in 2017.

He is a visiting lecturer at Swansea University in addition to being an examiner for De Montfort University, Leicester.
